On Wednesday June 24, 2009 President Ellison Flowers of the Rotary Club of Belize presided over his last meeting as president of this club before handing over to Maria Price, who will serve as President for 2009/2010. The annual Handing Over ceremony is conducted as part of the transition between presidents that happens every year in over 30,000 clubs around the world.
Outgoing President Ellison Flowers highlighted the success of the service projects and fundraisers held during the Rotary year July 2008 through June 2009 and thanked all those who participated and assisted the club. He touched on the club’s Everyone’s a Reader program, the contribution of a home to a family in conjunction with Hand in Hand Ministries, and the ongoing work of the Gift of Life program, among others.
Members of the Indian Community were also present to receive recognition for their contribution to the Bollywood Night which was held in 2008 as one of the club’s major fundraisers.
District Governor for District 4250 Rodolfo Bianchi and his wife Florence who came from Guatemala were also present for the occasion. District Governor Bianchi presented Presidential Citations to the Rotary Clubs of San Ignacio and Placencia. President John Roberson accepted on behalf of San Ignacio.
Outgoing District Governor Rodolfo Bianchi addressed the club and then congratulated our incoming District Governor for 4250 Dr. Marcelo Coyi on taking on the new leadership role for the District.
Incoming District Governor Coyi was accompanied by his wife, Rotarian Maria Coyi and his daughters. He becomes the third Belizean Governor for the district.
Dr Coyi highlighted the upcoming XV District Conference which will be held in Belize in February of 2010, and will be the third District Conference Belize has hosted.
Paul Harris Fellows were awarded to Past President Sandra Bedran, Rotarian Santiago Gomez – for his ongoing service to the community and the formation of the St. John's College High School Interact Club in Belize, and Mr. Lascelle Arnold for his contribution to Rotary's Gift of Life Program.
Sulama Reyes was inducted to the club as our newest Rotarian.
Mrs. Maria Price was then confirmed as the new President for the Rotary year 2009-2010. She also introduced the new board:

President Maria highlighted the Avenues of Service in each club and placed much emphasis on Service, Fellowship, Ethics, and the strengthening of the Rotary movement within the club.
She also highlighted the theme The Future of Rotary is in Our Hand by adding that the Club and by extension, our Country, is in our Hands.
The climax of the meeting was a presentation made by Mrs. Merlene Bailey-Martinez, CEO of the Social Security Board, who presented a check for $20,000 to the club towards the Gift of Life Program. Mrs. Martinez spoke of the club's integrity and its ability to make significant contributions to the community.
