Primary School Feeding Program (2 schools available)

 

 

Every day, children attending the public primary schools in the country come to school without breakfast. This can be attributed to many factors such as parental neglect and lack of financial means, among others. Research has shown that children without adequate nutrition do not learn properly and eventually fall out of school creating a cycle of poverty. It is estimated that one out of every four children in Belize come to school hungry.

 

The public (mostly parochial) schools are on very tight budgets and are limited with what they can provide to the students. While breakfast is hard logistically for the schools to provide, The Rotary Club of Belize has found that it is possible to provide a basic nutritious lunch for these at-risk children.

 

The Club has two existing feeding programs that it wishes to continue funding in order to provide basic food and nutrition. The beneficiary schools are Ebenezer Methodist School and St. Joseph’s Primary School. At both schools on any given school day approximately 50-60 Children are fed lunch consisting of a main meal with a fruit choice and drink through our club's funding mechanism.

 

Funding is sought for the ten-month school year, and covers the cost of the lunches for 50-60 kids at each school plus the cost of the cooks.

The project shall be overseen by a Committee set up by the Rotary Club of Belize.
