Phase I Budget: US$8331.50
Phase II Budget: US $12,120.90
Phase III Budget: US$10,000
Rotary Club of Belize Contribution: US$5000
Target Community: Primary School Student, Southside Belize City
Calvary Temple School is a low income primary school that seeks to educate students from some of the poorer parts of Belize City, our country's largest population centre. Some of the classrooms are cramped and in dire shape, being divided with only sheets and makeshift plywood walls. The school also suffers from repeated break-ins because they cannot afford to take adequate security precautions. Students at the school routinely come to school hungry, and spend the day struggling to learn in hot, dimly lit conditions. In short, the environment is not conducive to learning. With this in mind our club proposes to do the following in Phases with assistance from partner clubs or other donors who may be interested. Each phase is independent of the others and can be implemented in any order.
Phase One (70% of funding identified)
Restructuring the current classroom layout, installing new walls, ceilings, burglar bars on the windows, ceiling fans, adequate lighting, and painting the area. The layout design is already complete, bills of quantities drafted, and project funding is being sought. Local Rotarians will be providing the labour in partnership with Hand in Hand Ministries.
Phase Two (50% of funding identified)
The Lifeline Foundation has committed to a comprehensive feeding program, but adequate facilities must be installed. This phase provides food preparation and serving areas for the children in a safe, secure and hygienic building to be constructed. Plans have been drawn up, bill of quantities are complete and funding is being sought.
Phase Three (0% of funding identified)
In general, the surroundings of the school and the play yard leave a lot to be desired. This phase provides for playground equipment and landscaping with the hope of providing a safer environment more conducive to learning. Plans are currently being worked on.
The project shall be overseen by a Committee set up by the Rotary Club of Belize, and each phase can be implemented independently and in any order, based on donor preference.
